Obviously, my thoughts are with the 121 employees who were laid off. These layoffs come on the back of a turbulent past several months, with massive layoffs in gaming and tech across Apple, Amazon, CD Projekt RED, Deck Nine Games, Electronic Arts, Microsoft, Sony, and many others. Relic Entertainment and SEGA are still committed to supporting and investing in the studio's existing games like Company of Heroes 3, but it's unclear how this will be affected by the layoffs. The game launched on Windows PC back in 2021, with an Xbox console version currently in development and slated to launch later this year. More recently, the team co-developed Age of Empires 4 with World's Edge under Xbox Game Studios. Relic Entertainment, a subsidiary of Sega's Europe division, previously worked on a number of games such as the original Homeworld games, the Dawn of War and Company of Heroes franchises, and more. > 6 ways Diablo 4 is going to rule your life > Opinion: These three Xbox-bound indie games stole the PlayStation Showcase > Forza Motorsport (2023) has officially revealed its cover art and cars General location on a modern map, and main cities of Sumer with ancient coastline.> Pentiment has been updated with new localization and more The coastline was nearly reaching Ur in ancient times. Sumer ( / ˈ s uː m ər/) is the earliest known civilization in the historical region of southern Mesopotamia (south-central Iraq), emerging during the Chalcolithic and early Bronze Ages between the sixth and fifth millennium BC. It is also one of the first civilizations in the world, along with ancient Egypt, the Caral-Supe civilization, the Indus Valley civilization, the Minoan civilization, and ancient China. Living along the valleys of the Tigris and Euphrates, Sumerian farmers grew an abundance of grain and other crops, the surplus from which enabled them to form urban settlements. The earliest texts come from the cities of Uruk and Jemdet Nasr, and date to between c. 3500 and c. 3000 BC. Left: Sculpture of the head of Sumerian ruler Gudea, c. Right: cuneiform characters for Saĝ-gíg ( ?), "Black Headed Ones", the native designation for the Sumerians. The first is the pictographic character for "head" (, later ), the second the character for "night", and for "black" when pronounced gíg (, later ). The term "Sumer" ( Sumerian: ? eme-gi or ? eme-ĝir 15, Akkadian: ? šumeru) is the name given to the language spoken by the "Sumerians", the ancient non- Semitic-speaking inhabitants of southern Mesopotamia, by their successors the East Semitic-speaking Akkadians. The Sumerians themselves referred to their land as Kengir, the 'Country of the noble lords' ( ?, k-en-gi(-r), lit. 'country' + 'lords' + 'noble') as seen in their inscriptions. The origin of the Sumerians is not known, but the people of Sumer referred to themselves as "Black Headed Ones" or "Black-Headed People" ( ?, saĝ-gíg, lit. For example, the Sumerian king Shulgi described himself as "the king of the four quarters, the pastor of the black-headed people". The Akkadians also called the Sumerians 'black-headed people', or ṣalmat-qaqqadi, in the Semitic Akkadian language. The Akkadian word Šumer may represent the geographical name in dialect, but the phonological development leading to the Akkadian term šumerû is uncertain. Hebrew שִׁנְעָר Šinʿar, Egyptian Sngr, and Hittite Šanhar(a), all referring to southern Mesopotamia, could be western variants of Sumer. Most historians have suggested that Sumer was first permanently settled between c. 55 BC by a West Asian people who spoke the Sumerian language (pointing to the names of cities, rivers, basic occupations, etc., as evidence), a non-Semitic and non- Indo-European agglutinative language isolate. In contrast to its Semitic neighbours, it was not an inflected language.
